Valid Train Routes

Kansai Area Pass is valid for unlimited travel using ordinary non-reserved seats on Kansai-airport Express HARUKA and Special Rapid Services, Rapid Services, and Local Services on JR-WEST Conventional Lines indicated on the map.
- Kansai Area Pass cannot be used on SHINKANSEN (Bullet Train). Separate Limited/Regular Express Tickets must be purchased when using Limited/Regular Express Trains excluding Kansai-airport Express HARUKA.
Prices
There are four types of Kansai Area Pass: 1-day, 2-days, 3-days, and 4-days.

- "Child" refers to a child who will be aged between 6 and 11 on the day that a rail pass is collected from a JR-WEST station.
- Up to 2 infants aged 5 years old or younger are able to travel for free if accompanied by an Adult or a Child.
- An additional child's rail pass will be required in the following situations:
1. When three or more infants are accompanied by an Adult or a Child.
(Third infant and every infant thereafter requires a child's rail pass. Babies aged under 1 year old are able to travel for free.)
2. When an infant travels by themselves.

Visitors can purchase a rail pass overseas or in Japan.
Purchasing a rail pass overseas
Purchase an MCO (miscellaneous charges order—a ticket that acts of proof of payment for plane tickets and other services) or an exchange order from an overseas sales location. After entering Japan, exchange your MCO or exchange order for your rail pass at an exchange location. All the following conditions must be met:- 1. Visitors to Japan holding a passport issued by a government other than the Japanese government who come to Japan on a "Temporary Visitor" status of residence (period of stay 15 days or 90 days).
- "Temporary Visitor" is a status of residence defined under Japanese immigration law that allows visitors to stay for 15 or 90 days.
※日本国籍のお客様は使用できません。 - 2. On the day it is exchanged, the MCO must be no more than three months old from its original date of issue.
- 3. You must fill out an application form with your name, passport details, the date your journey will start, and other necessary details, and submit it with your MCO and passport.

Purchasing a rail pass in Japan
Visitors must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible to purchase a rail pass in Japan:
- 1. Visitors to Japan holding a passport issued by a government other than the Japanese government who come to Japan on a "Temporary Visitor" status of residence (period of stay 15 days). Nationals of the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, New Zealand, and other visa-exempt countries may purchase a rail pass on a 90-days "Temporary Visitor" status of residence.
- "Temporary Visitor" is a status of residence defined under Japanese immigration law that allows visitors to stay for 15 or 90 days.
※日本国籍のお客様は使用できません。 - 2. Visitors who have a departure card (embarkation card) and a return plane or boat ticket (e-ticket). Fill out an application form with your name, country, passport number, the date your journey will start, and other necessary details, and submit it with your passport, departure card (embarkation card), and return ticket (e-ticket).
- 3. Visitors who are purchasing a Kansai Area Pass for the first time during their visit.
Caution: Visitors may purchase only ONE pass per visit per person.

- - In Japan: Kyoto, Ibaraki, Shin-Osaka, Osaka, Kobe, Shin-Kobe, Sannomiya, Nishi-Akashi, Himeji, Nijo, Uji, Saga-Arashiyama, Kitashinchi, Kyobashi, Tsuruhashi, Tennoji, Shin-Imamiya, Bentencho, Nishikujo, Kansai-airport, Nara, and JR-Namba stations and major branches of JTB, Nippon Travel Agency, Kinki Nippon Tourist, and Top Tour.

Availability and Use
A rail pass are available all year round. (The rail pass may be purchased up to 1 month in advance of the first day of use.)
A rail pass can be used at any time of the year. (There are no times at which the rail pass use is restricted.)
Train Accommodations
A rail pass can be used.
A rail pass can be used for Basic Fare Ticket only. (Separate ticket required)
A rail pass cannot be used.

- 1 Separate Limited/Regular Express Tickets [and First Class (Green) Tickets, if using First Class (Green) Car] are required to use ordinary reserved seats (or First Class (Green) Car) on Kansai-airport Express HARUKA.
- 2 Separate Limited/Regular Express Tickets [and First Class (Green) Tickets, if using the Fist Class (Green) Car/Sleeper Tickets, if using Sleeper Car] are required to use Limited/Regular Express Trains (excluding Kansai-airport Express HARUKA) that run through the lines in which Kansai Area Pass is valid.
- 3 Separate numbered tickets or Liner Tickets are required to use Liner Trains such as “Yamatoji Liner”.
- - A rail pass is valid until the day after the expiry date only in the event that the rail pass holder boards a train before the pass expires and continues their journey after it has expired without passing through a ticket gate. In such cases, if the rail pass holder boards a Limited/Regular Express Trains or other trains requiring extra tickets, the rail pass is only valid for Basic Fare Ticket, and the rali pass holder must purchase separate Limited Express Tickets and any other extra tickets that are required.
Changes
-
- - The date from which a rail pass is valid cannot be changed.
- - The type of a rail pass cannot be changed.
Refunds
- - The sale price of the rail pass minus a handling fee will be refunded only for a valid, unused rail pass (and only if reserved seats are cancelled before the departure time of trains.) Refunds will be given at the location where the rail pass was exchanged or issued.
- Handling fee: 210 yen per one rail pass.
- - No retunds will be given if you remove the magnetic ticket from the rail pass book.
- - No refunds will be given after you start to use the rail pass.
- - No refunds will be given after the rail pass is expired.
- - No refunds will be given due to non-availability of service, delays, or similar issues.
Miscellaneous information
- - A rail pass is only valid for the rail pass holder. They cannot be transferred to other passengers.
- - Carry your passport with you at all times when using your rail pass and present it to a JR staff if asked.
- - A rail pass is void if the seal used to attach the magnetic ticket to the rail pass book is removed.
- - You cannot board a train using only the magnetic ticket or only the rail pass book.
- - Details recorded on a rail pass will not be changed.
- - A rail pass will not be reissued even if lost or stolen.
- - Other conditions of use are as stipulated by the JR-WEST conditions of carriage and the laws of Japan. Conditions of use for exchange orders are as stipulated by regulations and contracts of the issuing company.
- - A rail pass entitles the user to a "Rail & Rent-a-car" discount on rental vehicles when presented at a sales location or a designated Eki Rent-a-car branch.
- ・ Applicable Eki Rent-a-car branches: All Eki Rent-a-car branches within the area covered by the relevant rail pass. (Except for Kokura and Hakata branches.)
- ・ Rent-a-car tickets will only be changed or refunded on a ticket-by-ticket basis. (Relevant fees apply.)
- - If any discrepancies arise between the English and Japanese versions of the conditions of carriage, the Japanese version shall have precedence.
