Innoshima Hassaku orange peel
“JR PREMIUM SELECT SETOUCHI”
Setouchi “Oishii” Series

Unique dish prepared from the peel
of hassaku oranges nurtured
in the blessings of Setouchi
– an immaculate blend of faintly bitter
and sweet-sour pleasure.

The hassaku orange is a citrus fruit originally grown on Innoshima in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture – one of the islands stretching along the Shimanami Sea Route. Grown in the warm climate of Setouchi, the hassaku is distinctive for its slightly bitter flavor and juicy texture. At “Shimanami Okashi Koubou” sweets shop, this island specialty is used in confections to delight the residents of Innoshima. The shop has also pioneered production of “Hassaku Peel” – a creation inspired by the concept of not wasting any peel remaining after the actual fruit is used. That project included channeling major time and effort into removing bitterness from the peel to ensure maximum pleasures by people of all ages. This brought the launch of Hassaku Peel, an immaculate blend of faintly bitter and sweet-sour joys expanding throughout the mouth.
