Announcing the Fiscal 2024 Service Plan for the “etSETOra,” Tourism Train Steeped in the Charms of Setouchi

In October 2020, the “etSETOra” tourism train made its debut on the Kure Line between Hiroshima and Onomichi. Ever since, it has continued to earn stellar marks from a steady stream of satisfied travelers for helping showcase the myriad charms of the Setouchi region. Onboard, passengers enjoy selections of original and delicious sweets. Operated on return trips is an onboard bar serving liquor and snacks native to areas lying along the line. During both outgoing and return runs, the train slows down or fully stops at scenic points, enabling riders to savor the views from the windows. This train is a great means to bask in the sensual pleasures of Setouchi, while being gently rocked by the relaxing rhythms of the tracks.

“etSETOra” – Tourism Train Impeccably Engineered in the Local Flavor

“Et cetera” is the Latin phrase used to express “various other things,” “and so forth” and similar concepts. The “etSETOra” reflects this nuance, striving to articulate the attractions of the Setouchi region found along the train’s route. The origins lie in the phrase “etto,” which in the local Hiroshima dialect means “many” or “numerous.” In other words, the hope is for passengers on this train to tune into and interact with the abundant attractions found in Seto.
